Toys play an important role in the early stages of a child’s socialization process. Very early on, children are made to adhere to societal roles regarding how girls should behave and how boys should behave and even the toys that they must play with. Just because she is a girl, doesn't mean that she should play only with dolls.
Young girls playing with kitchen-sets and Barbie dress-up games with their mirrors and their hairbrushes over-emphasize caregiving and beauty standards. In much the same way that violence-related toys can be bad for boys, sexist toys can be damaging for girls.
Instead, why not give children science toys and building blocks, toys that promote experimentation, that pique their curiosity, that push children to visualise and envision, and stir their imagination profoundly?
